Landscape with Crosses
Height 22.5cm Width 18cm Depth 15.5cm
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140C.
There is a simple airy feel to the surface of this piece but this is contrasted with the focal point of the red circle that has been achieved using a ceramic pastel that I use to create the distinct chalk like mark. The texture around the top edge has been achieved using ground up dried pieces of clay that have been sprinkled into the soft clay slab before it is constructed. The almost unnoticed pink pieces within this texture add an important layer of colour and additional richness to the surface.
