I've been using grog to sprinkle into soft clay to make textured surfaces for a while now. In this piece I wanted to exaggerate that texture by using some different coloured course grog that I make myself. There is an obvious high contrast in this piece between the black and white halves but the subtle colours in the lighter, textured half are also important in the composition.
Slab built with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140C
