The shape that is inset into the top edge has an engobe that crazes and along with the stepped top edge this helps to emphasis this shape and make it stand out as part of the surface composition but also as an alteration to the otherwise cylindrical form. The small area of red glaze is an old favorite that I have used for many years and require an additional firing to 900C. This red spot is a small addition but a vitally important part of the overall composition.
