I love the vast openness of beaches and the way flat horizons can be interrupted by some posts, masts or building. In this piece I wanted to leave plenty of white space to contrast with the busier detail of vertical lines at the bottom of the pot. The glazed turquoise square at the top works particularly well in this piece as the glaze is layered on top of a crazed engobe that adds more richness and texture.
