This is one of the smaller pieces in the collection and has been made by wrapping soft clay around a wooden block. The supporting wooden block allows me to work on the piece while the clay is still soft and this creates a looser feel that captures something about the characteristics of soft clay. One half has a matt surface that has been achieved with layers of different coloured engobes. The other half also has layers of engobe and slip but is finished with a clear glossy glaze that adds a contrasting tactile quality compared to the matt surface.
