I enjoy finding different ways of breaking up the outline of these tiles. On this occasion the circular red shapes do this successfully. The flat surface of the piece has also been interrupted by the inclusion of the terracotta coloured line that is a piece of slab that has been added edge on. It also deliberately juts out beyond the edges of the tile. Most of the surface has a matt finish achieved with layers of engobe, slip and underglaze but there is a nice contrasting area of glossy transparent glaze that follows the terracotta line.
