I love the footpaths of this part of Cornwall and how they allow you to walk across quiet and often unseen parts of the landscape. This one reminds me of the granite steps of a stile that allows you to climb over the boundary between one field and another. The dark lines were stencilled on using a dark clay slip, they are an important part of the composition as they visually link the yellow and green shapes. the piece has a mostly matt surface but there is a clear glossy glaze around the top edge for an additional tactile quality.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
