Workshops

I have been delivering workshops for the last 7 years and for 30 years before that I taught in a college in the UK. Each year I typically run 2 or 3 two day workshops from my own studio in Cornwall and longer workshops from other schools and studios in the UK and Europe.

Whether the workshop is for 2 or 5 days, my intention is always to share the techniques that I typically use on my own work. This includes surface mark-making techniques like:

  • Using engobe and slip

  • Applying texture using grog

  • Impressing texture and pattern

  • Monoprinting

  • Stencilling

I also explain and demonstrate my slab building process. As well as demonstrating techniques, I also want to impress the importance of an experimental, playful and open-minded approach to making ceramics. During the workshop, I want to show how my initial landscape-based inspiration can be used to influence my ceramics.
