The blue engobe that covers most of the surface of this piece has a wash of black slip underneath it which helps to add a textural contrast to the surface. The bottom edge has different coloured bits of ground up fired clay embedded into the surface of the soft clay which adds a satisfying tactile quality. The top corner was cut out of the leatherhard clay and re-joined with and extra strip of thicker clay which adds a 3-dimensional line to the surface that just protrudes beyond the edge of the form which helps to emphasise its 3D quality.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
