Height 13cm Width 11cm Depth 10cm
The dark edge on this piece is partly made with a dark sandstone that I find on the beach; I can grind it up and rub it into the surface of the soft clay. I like the reference to dark ancient rocks that the dark edge suggests and which is actually created partly with stone from the beach. The dark edge contrasts noticeably with the lighter side that has washes of terracotta slip and blue engobe underneath a white engobe. I often walk amongst the rocks at Godrevy when the tide is out and see these glimpses of dark wet rocks and lighter sky and sea beyond.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
