The coarse texture on this piece had to be made while the clay slab was still flat and soft. I added a lot of grog onto the surface of the clay and then dragged a metal kidney over the grog which began to tear into the surface of the clay which created a very tactile surface. I was pleased at the way that the texture faded into the flatter smoother area.
The green section was then inset into the space where a shape had been cut out, and was deliberately stepped up above the top edge of the form. The dark circle marks were applied using a monoprint technique; the small size of these marks was important to contrast with the bigger, plainer open spaces.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
