Beach Walk

Height 16.5cm Width 9cm Depth 5cm

I have an interest in letter and number shapes which is difficult to explain. I often talk about the influence of the landscape on my work and argue that letter and number shapes are often seen in the landscape with ambiguous or lost meanings, for example signs on gates, road signs, graffiti, painted letters on roads or numbers on telegraph poles. So the stencilled number shapes on this piece have no meaning they are there to suggest a lost meaning and should be enjoyed as sharper edged shapes that contrast with the brush work and texture of the rest of the piece.

Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
