Height 28cm Width 20cm Depth 10.5cm
The way that surface marks and form combine is such an important aspect of my work. The darker edge and turquoise area help to emphasise the shape of the outline of the form. The dark area was made using a gritty clay slip and the gritty texture remains as an important textural finish which contrasts with the glossy surface of the turquoise area next to it. I like the marks and colour around the edge which leave plenty of white space in the centre. The yellow shape on the corner protrudes even further off the edge of the piece adding to it’s dramatic composition.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
