Height 25cm Width 15cm Depth 9cm
I have used a richly coloured, coarsely grogged terracotta clay for this piece. The texture and marks on the white section were made by stretching the clay while it was still flat and soft and then selecting a piece of that slab to join with the other shapes.
Having shapes that protrude beyond the outline of a piece is something that I’ve been doing for a while but achieving that feel around the base is technically much harder but I have managed it in this piece which has resulted in a gap under the piece which gives the feeling of it being elevated.
The blue edge has a glossy glaze over it which has a contrasting tactile feel compared to the otherwise matt finish.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
