I often use a technique to make my pieces where I wrap soft clay around a wooden block and work on the piece with the wood still inside supporting the soft clay. This piece is made in that way and the technique has allowed me to make more expressive marks in the surface of the clay by impressing and drawing with my fingers into the wet coloured engobe. The green area is a glossy glaze that has a contrasting texture to the otherwise matt surface. The colours and textures of the piece reminded me of the open landscape at an area called North Cliffs that I often walk or run through.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
