The coarse texture on this piece was produced by adding lots of grog into the surface of the clay and then dragging the edge of a metal kidney over this to raise the texture further. It was a process that I discovered by accident when trying to remove some grog from the surface of another piece but is something I can now employ to create this very tactile quality. The surface is mostly matt but the band around the top edge is a glossy transparent turquoise glaze.
Slab built vessel with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
