The number shapes around the top edge are made by pressing old wooden printing blocks into the soft clay. These shapes are deliberately upside down or fragmented. The indent that is left has been filled with various glazes to give them more prominence. The incised lines that pass through the number shapes have been covered with some white engobe that was transferred onto the clay surface from newspaper. This means the first layer of terracotta is still visible under the white. I like the step in the outline of the form and the way it meets up with the change in colour on the surface from green to white.
